OUR MISSION

The mission statement of the church is given to us through the words of Jesus to his disciples. In Matthew 28:18-20, we read, “Jesus came near and spoke to them, ‘I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.'” (CEB)

The mission statement of the United Methodist Church reflects this “Great Commission” from Jesus. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

That mission statement, along with the great commands from Jesus to love God with everything we are and to love others as God has loved us, serve as guiding principles for Wightman and other churches in fulfilling the mission we’ve been given.

OUR VISION

We operate on a mission given to us by Jesus and our vision is the way that Wightman works toward that mission on the local level. In our vision for ministry, we seek guidance from God through prayer, we connect to God through Scripture, we participate in ministry and missions and we worship together.

Five key statements that help us connect with our vision are as follows:

  • We trust God and one another.
  • We build relationships.
  • We represent Jesus in this world.
  • We make disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • We love, God, love people and do stuff.
